Becoming slaves — Matthew 20:24–28

The King’s actions

Jesus breaks up a quarrel

The context of the reading: Jesus and his disciples are in Jericho – implied from the next verse – James and John’s mother has come to Jesus to ask for her sons to have the place of honour in Jesus’ coming kingdom. To have a pushy mother embarrass you like this is bad enough when you are children, but to have it happen when you are adults …

That was bad enough for James and John, but the attitude of the other disciples is about to make it worse.

The caption, "He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help - Psalm 17:12," is superimposed over an image of a shanty town built beside a railway.

24 And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Matthew 20:24-28

A happy New Year to all of you.

The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) has announced a massive increase in donations after they posted a video of asylum seekers being rescued in the English Channel and an episode of Saving Lives at Sea showed them picking up from rubber dinghies. Social media has lit up with ‘RNLI taxi’ trending on Twitter. It seems to me that some people can’t stand the fact that other people are not as full of hate as they are. It also shows that this form of racism comes from a minority.

Not only is the RNLI saving people. but they are landing the asylum seekers on beaches where local people are out to welcome them, give them a meal and help them with the asylum process. These are not illegal immigrants, seeking asylum is a legal right under agreements the UK is signed up to. In any case, the UK is taking far fewer asylum seekers than many countries in the EU.

Jesus’ lesson to his disciples is that you become great through serving other people and not by lording over them. Some people like to look down on ordinary people. Desmond Tutu, whose funeral was last weekend, memorably said that he had never met an ordinary person. I would echo that, everybody has within them the image of God.

Everyone means everyone. Male and female, straight, gay. bi and transsexuals, Rich and poor, British and non-British. neuro-typical and neuro-diverse, the physically and mentally disabled. There is nobody outside God’s love. We must serve them.

Well. Steven. We hsve some common beliefs. We differ a lot of these illegal economic immigrants leaving a safe country, i.e., France. 66% of them falsely claiming to be children.

Polls in Britain state over 2/3 of Britains want this illegal immigration stopping.

Those here illrgally need sending back to France.

They burn down army barracks. Insist on 4star or 5star accommodation.

They should be returned to France.

The money they drain from the UK is needed for UK citizens. Poverty is a real problem and getting worse. Resources such as schools, councils and the NHS are overloaded with these economic illegal migrants.

Brexit needs implementing in full. The EU are evil, a federal version of Communism. Scrap the Brexit deal. WTO terms. Buy UK or rest of world not from the mafia style protectionist bullying EU.

    1. Hi Steve

You have referred to illegal economic migrants several times in these two replies. They are not illegal unless they do a runner on reaching our shores or after asylum is refused after investigation. Applying for asylum is a legal right. If they win they officially become a refugee with 5 years leave to stay after which they have to apply for further leave.

Up to about a year ago, we did return some migrants to safe countries of the EU, since late January last year we fave returned no asylum seekers as they were returned under an EU agreement and as we are no longer under EU agreements EU countries have no duty to receive them back.

If we were still in the EU we could return some.

Last point. It is wrong and offensive to call those who oppose economic illegal migrants, racists. I personally call you out on that point, you really disappoint me with this!

The RNLI is actually getting a lot of justified criticism for been a taxi service to these economic illegal migrants.

The terrorist who tried to blow up Liverpool Cathedral, then second choice the Womens Hospital in Liverpool was one of these economic illegal immigrants. He could have and tried to kill thousands of Christians and or women and babies on Remembrance Sunday in Liverpool. My son and his mother attend Liverpool Cathedral often. He should have been deported years ago, when his asylum was refused. This nutter lived within 5 minutes of my sons house in Liverpool. So before preaching about letting all into this country, think about the harm, the terrorism and deaths they have already brought and will continue to bring. We need to vet all migrants. Ensure safe and wanting and able to work. Small island this Britain. We do not want or need those who want to kill us and destroy our way of life and freedoms.

Do gooders, generally do more harm than good. An example in history is Hitler. Sift, do gooders tried to Appease him and his evil band. Been soft with Hitler caused the death of millions in World War Two.

As a very knowledgeable historian. I categorically state we cannot appeal to the good nature and behaviour of butchers and genocide wishers. History is full of appeasers who cause millions of deaths.

So, without the liberal, do gooders letting the likes of Hitler, Mussolini, the Japanese in WW2, The Austro-Hungarian Empire, The Kaiser etc in WW1. Napoleon of France etc etc.

This pattern goes all the wayback to Genghis Khan, The Vikings, The Romans, etc, etc.
