Advent 2023-Lectio Divina part 1
This Advent I am going to look at the practise of Lectio Divina, mostly because it is my favourite form of prayer and meditation. Lectio Divina means “Divine Reading” in Latin. It is a systematic way of reading the Bible dating back to the early centuries of the Christian church.

Lectio Divina has four parts:
- Reading: Read the passage slowly and carefully.
- Meditation: Think deeply about the text.
- Prayer: Having a loving conversation with God.
- Contemplation: Resting in God’s presence.
I am doing this in nine parts, not to add anything to what is there but to clarify the sections. They are:
- An introduction (this post).
- Preparation: What to do before you read and meditate.
- Reading.
- Meditation.
- What if nothing happens?
- Prayer.
- Contemplation.
- Action: What to do about it?
- Conclusion.
There will be three posts a week for three weeks, as the fourth Sunday in Advent is also Christmas Eve.
Please join me in this journey.
