Enhancing Adult Learning Disability Centres in Kirklees with Neurodiversity Support
The upcoming changes will be thoughtfully designed to embrace and accommodate individuals with diverse neurological and physical abilities, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all.
Two centers in Heckmondwike, Mill Dale and Crescent Dale, provide valuable support for adults with autism and other neurodivergences. Plans are underway to modernize these centers, ensuring that individuals receive the care and resources they need in an environment that is conducive to their well-being.

There will be immersive spaces designed to create multi-sensory experiences, as well as rooms dedicated to a variety of activities. Additionally, the center will feature specialist assistive technology, such as an “interactive magic table”, along with a separate outdoor eating area and raised beds, as well as a potting shed for gardening, all tailored to provide a supportive and enriching environment.
These adjustments will be crafted to wholeheartedly welcome and empower neurodiverse individuals, as well as those with intricate physical disabilities, by incorporating pioneering design and technology elements.
Building is due to start in spring 2025 and the authority said it hoped the new facilities would be ready by summer 2026.
This comes three years after Cherry Trees in Shepley was modernized with similar facilities.
