Praying without words

Praying outside the box day 1

Advent 2024

It’s like the earworm of a catchy song you don’t particularly like and can’t shake. You know the thing, it can be embarrassing if you suddenly break into the song where you can be heard and the earworm is from the Bodyform advert.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, an earworm is one of those snippets of music that gets stuck and Bodyform is a feminine sanitary product. It’s easy to find for anybody with YouTube, search for “Whoooah bodyform” and you’ll get the idea.

Though it can be embarrassing, period poverty, and the inability of women to afford or have access to pads or tampons during their periods is a serious issue. Here is a link to a charity doing something about it.

One year ago I published this. I had a look through the spiritual exercise of Lectio Divina, which is something I use. It struck me that Lectio Divina is very wordy and there are other ways of meditating and praying that use fewer words—or even none.

But that is this year. This is how I started last year:

This is how it will go this year, hopefully:

1a. Meditating on art.
1b. Creating art.
2a. Listening to music.
2b. Playing music.
3a. Walking in nature.
4b. Urban walks.

Tell me what you think
