Exploring Disability in the Passion of Christ

Lent 2026 – Disabled Jesus

Lent is a season for reflection. During Lent this year, I will celebrate, if that is the right word, the 20th anniversary of my being disabled. I’ll be looking at the Passion of the Christ from the perspective of Trauma theology. This is how it will go – Nine posts in four categories:

1. The “Disabled God” and Solidarity

  • A Wounded Saviour:
  • Progressive Disablement:
  • Solidarity with Pain:

2. Redefining “Wholeness”

  • Perfection is Not Able-Bodiedness:
  • Disability as Identity

3. Subverting Power Dynamics

  • The Power of Vulnerability:
  • Prophetic Presence:

4. Re-reading the Healing Narratives

  • Social Restoration over Physical Fix:
  • Critique of “Healing” Culture:

Through the eyes of the disabled, the Passion is a powerful, intimate, and comforting story of a God who is not distant from, but deeply immersed in, the experience of vulnerability.
