Have you ever tried unpacking the jokes in John’s Gospel? And guess what? The first joke in John doesn’t just walk onto the stage once; it makes a grand return in Chapter 1, verse 15, because who doesn’t love a good sequel?

Following the star
Which star are you following? Advent 2025 The NASA website is amazing, especially the stunning images from the Hubble and Webb space telescopes. The Triangulum galaxy is particularly fascinating as it harbours the largest region of new star formation in our Local Group of galaxies, showcasing the incredible wonders of the universe! Stars die and …
What is all this ‘Born Again’ stuff about anyway?
Who is Jesus? part 12 After a break for Advent, we're back to John's Gospel. We are still in the opening song, Chapter 1 verses 1 to 18. For Christmas day I talked about verse 14, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the …

New Year’s Day 2025
Happy New Year! Looking back & looking forward. Historic England proudly announced the addition of two new Grade 2 listed buildings in Huddersfield in late 2024. That's two of just 17 awarded this last year. This is a wonderful achievement, and we have much to celebrate! The first is the place where I was born. …

Praying outside the box: part 3b Advent 2024 Taking a walk through nature to hear God is all very well. After all at the stressful times in his life Jesus would take time out to get away from everything and spend time with his Father God. As a lifestyle choice, I commend it, even though …
Taking a walk in the countryside
Appreciating the beauty of God's creation can truly feel like a heartfelt prayer of gratitude, whether you're wandering through serene woodlands on a warm day or gazing up at the twinkling stars.
Praying by playing music, or by dancing.
Praying outside the box: part 2b Advent 2024 I have a conflict of interest here. I am a musician, but I am not a dancer. Even before I was disabled, my dancing was notorious for stiffness. My lack of grace on the dancefloor is not a problem here. This blog post is for those with …
Listening to music/watching dance
Praying outside the box: part 2a Advent 2024 When I’ve spoken with others about incorporating music into prayer, they often share their experiences of singing words of praise or listening to uplifting praise songs while focusing on the lyrics. I truly appreciate that approach; it’s wonderful to engage in practices that direct our thoughts toward …
