Trinity

A poem for Trinity Sunday

Fire and smoke.

In the beginning was chaos.
Into the chaos
the Spirit of God fluttered over the water
and into a place where there was no light
and a new day dawned,
An idea in the mind of the Creator, Spirit, Word God
came into reality.

Into the created world the Word walked.
Into the chaos
the Spirit of God fluttered over the water
settling on the word.
From above a voice said, “That’s my boy.”
God above us, beside us, among us.

A storm was heard to blow.
Into the room of Word followers
into the chaos
the Spirit of God fluttered in fire
settling on the Word followers
Timid men went out in power.
God inside them.

God above us, beside us, within us.

Tell me what you think
