Sometimes I look up at the sky and wonder, “Is there intelligent life on other planets?”
I don’t get out cycling nearly enugh as I’d like, and the chance of combining a ride with a chance to see some shooting stars, with the Earth going through the Perseid cloud there’s no better time to go star gazing, except for the light pollution.
So as dusk fell it was out onto the high moors, away from the bright lights of the town and the valleys. there was a mixture of cloud and clear sky, and a quarter moon was showing in front of me. As I got higher and the sky was getting darker the moon disappeared behind a cloud. By the time it was dark enough to see stars the sky had totally clouded over. No stars, sill or shooting, to be seen.
But I was not the only one up there. People had gone out in their cars to go meteor gazing, getting away from the light pollution they were watching the skies…
…with their headlights on!
Sometimes I look up at the sky and wonder, “Is there intelligent life on other planets?”
Sometimes I look down at the ground and wonder, “Is there intelligent life on this planet?”
