I could never understand Dr Seuss.
The cat in the hat never did it for me, neither did Green eggs and ham. I know it is for kids, but I’m talking about when I was a kid.
There’s nothing wrong with clever word play, but I always wanted a story. A lot of the good doctor’s books lack a story. I was always a logical child. Always more at home with a good sum than a good book, you know where you are with sums, 2 + 2 is never 5. Logic always works.
But I’ve changed. Being a father and watching the faces on your children* as you read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. I’ve come to appreciate Dr Seuss. Not all kids were as logical as me.
*Children who are now adults.
