Keeping it on the safe side – I am the door

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:9-10
We’re talking sheep here.
In this talk Jesus said “I am the…” twice. I will deal with I am the good shepherd tomorrow, but for today it is The door – specifically the door to the sheep pen. In the same way as shepherd would have placed himself across the gateway of the sheep pen Jesus is saying that he is the door to God’s kingdom. he lets people in and out.
But there is something else going on here.
With the shepherd in the doorway no sheep rustlers or wild animals can get in to the harm the sheep. Jesus is our security, our position in God’s kingdom is safe. Not just safe so that we survive. But safe enough to enjoy life with no worries.
Abundant life is the promise, not po-faced religiosity. Jesus is our protector; Let’s party
