Made in God’s image

So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:271

Let me get this out of the way first, we are all made in the image of God. All of us, the text clearly says that male and female are created in the image of God.

sunsetThis means that we are not God, we are not gods, but we are God like. All of us, even those who do not believe in God, we have within us the nature and qualities of God, those qualities being (from the passage of Genesis chapter 1) creative, spiritual, communicative, intelligent, relational and morally responsible2.

We are all amazing. There are no ordinary people, just extraordinary ones, every one of us is made in God’s image: Having the image of God in us. God never made a substandard person. As another Scripture verse puts it, you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

God never made a substantial person. Not you, not me, not the guy in the wheelchair or the woman with a guide dog. Neither are those on the autism spectrum or with psychiatric disorders. God’s image is not marred in us, we are as fearfully and wonderfully made as everyone who is able bodied.
