A Missed opportunity
Holy Trinity Church, Huddersfield, Sunday 6th May 2018
Vicar Mike missed a trick in his sermon illustration this morning.
The sermon illustration he did use was of a flight of geese, and how they can fly 71% further by flying in the V formation. It was all about teamwork, based on Moses’s father-in-law Jethro in Exodus chapter 18, and how leadership burdens should be shared.
But there was a better illustration. With the last stage of the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race starting in Halifax, only 5 miles away using the way cyclists take turns at the front of the race and others go back to the team car to fetch drink bottles, all in order for one person on their team to get the glory. That, to my mind would be an equally appropriate, and more topical, sermon illustration.
