The Holy Spirit
Part 1 – Power
In some of the Psalms in my Bible there is a word SELAH, it denotes that here is a space to think on the words, to meditate on them. In this blog I am asking the readers to go through what is being said slowly, and to pause and meditate at times. If necessary go back and read each section.
You and I stand in great need of the power of the Holy Spirit in our life, of the working of the Holy Spirit in our life and we should constantly be crying out to God for the greater and greater infusions of his power and greater and greater outpourings of the holy Spirit in our lives and on the church.
SELAH – Be still, take time to think about this.
What we have to do cannot be done by us. The great missionary endeavour, what there still lacks in taking the Gospel to the nations, it cannot be done by us. We cannot organise it into happening, we cannot make it happen. All our gifts, all our powers, all our strategies cannot achieve what has to be done in this world.
SELAH – Be still, take time to think about this.
But the Holy Spirit can. Constantly we should be crying out to God for greater and greater manifestations of his power in our lives. But know this, some of the greatest manifestations of the Spirit have to do with character and thr fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and the power of the Holy Spirit in ministry not to cause confusion in the church and turn the church into entertainment, but to empower the church to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations. we must have that.
SELAH – Be still, take time to think about this.
Our greatest need, you and I, is to be alone with God, to shut ourselves off with his word, to study his word, to study mighty men and women of the faith who have gone before us and were used mightily by God. But our other great need is to cry out for the continuing outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your life so that you can be used by God in the ways that he will use you. The Holy Spirit is not some little thing that will make what you do a little better, it is absolutely essential.
SELAH – Be still, take time to think about this.
All power comes from God, we can influence peoples ears and eyes, but we cannot change people’s hearts; we need the Spirit of God to do that.
I’ll finish how I started:
You and I stand in great need of the power of the Holy Spirit in our life, of the working of the Holy Spirit in our life and we should constantly be crying out to God for the greater and greater infusions of his power and greater and greater outpourings of the holy Spirit in our lives and on the church.
