God who hides

In part 6 of this series on the names of God I looked at El Olam, God has hidden it. That name meaning that God reveals things that are hidden gradually, as we have a need to know it.

It would seem that this name means the same, however the presence of God’s actual name, YHWH, often vocalised as Yahweh or Jehovah, shows that this name is more personal. It is a personal God that does the hiding.

The second difference is that it is personal from the human side too. The human side is personal too. There are many places where God is relating to a people, this is one where God relates to the individual.

The third difference is that this time it is not God hiding thing from us, it is God hiding us from things.

For he will hide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
he will lift me high upon a rock.
Psalm 27:5 ESVUK

Note that God hides us in times of trouble, not hides us from times of trouble.

Let us praise the personal God who protects and cares for us each personally.
