Names of God – Part 39

The Lord our Deliverer

YHWH is God’s actual name which he revealed to Moses from the burning bush, it implies the personal nature of God.

The second part of the name here is how God relates to us:

I’ll admit I am cheating a little here. I got my list of God’s names from a list on the internet which has been copied to several church websites, several blogs and more than a few Facebook statuses and groups. The thing about the list is that the Bible verse next to the name is the one corresponding to the previous name in the list throughout the list. All these copies and no one bothered to check.
Here is the list with the Bible readings correct.

The verse corresponding to this name, Psalm 32:7, is this, from the ESV Anglicized.

You are a hiding place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance

The problem here is that this is not a name of God. It does, however, tell us something about the nature of God, and about our relationship with God, so I am including it in the list.

God is singing over us with shouts of deliverance. Not just gentle singing, God delivers us in loud singing, in shouts. When God became human and was born in Bethlehem, Heaven could not keep quiet, angels, a whole host of angels, announced the birth of the deliverer in song to the Bethlehem shepherds. When we join in song praising God for sending Jesus we are joining in with Heaven’s song, we are praising along with the angels.

It is worth shouting about, shouts of joy, our song of joy blending with God’s song of deliverance.
