Last prayers

Today was my last day reading the intercessions in church. At least the last for now.

All our rotas come to an end in two weeks time. We are moving on to having two Sunday morning services, one more traditional with organ music at 9am and one less traditional with a worship band (guitars, drums etc) at 10:45.

Everyone has been asked to put themselves down on different rotas, except for those who are involved in children’s/youth work or musicians. So as a percussionist (so not really a musician then 😉  ) I am off all rotas except music.

There is a weekly pew sheet with topics to pray about, available on the Holy Trinity Huddersfield web site.

Other than them, Here are my last intercessions as prayed last Sunday.

Almighty and eternal God, whose goodness and grace overflowed when you raised Jesus from the dead, let your goodness and grace continue to flow upon your people.

Lord of wonders, you transform despair into gladness with the festival of Christ’s resurrection. Let the risen life of Jesus be the source of our joy on earth, and strengthen, we pray, your Church in the desire for true fellowship. Come with power among us and confirm our faith. May all who are involved in ministry reveal your love and your saving power. We thank you for all who have shared their awareness and love for you. Make us one in heart and mind, so that together we may share the good news with all people.
Lord, though we have not seen you, yet we believe: help thou our unbelief. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord JesusWe pray in our local community for this Church. As we are about to move into a period of trying two services may we not forget that we are one in you.

Prayer for Lahore.

Compassionate God and Father of us all
We are horrified by violence
In so many parts of the world
It seems that none are safe and some are terrified
Hold back the hands that kill and maim
Turn around the hands that hate
Grant instead that your strong Spirit of Peace
Peace that passes our understanding
But changes lives
Through Jesus Christ our Lord

Lord Jesus you said. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. At this time of Easter we think of resurrecyion and we are reminded that for those who love you that death is not the end.

¶Those who suffer
Lord, have mercy on those who cannot sense the reality of your love for them. Give confidence to those who are beset by doubt and fear, and suffer mental anguish as a result. Roll away the stone that blocks their path to new life and hope. Roll away the stone of despair and hopelessness so that the light of Christ may shine into the darkness to bring joy and warmth to those who suffer.
