Sin Sunday
Ibiza September 2017. In our many trips around Sant Antoni Bay we passed this poster:
Ibiza is and island of contrasts,Most of the towns and villages are named after Christian Saints, including Sant Antoni, the town where Ocean Beach, which puts on Sin Sunday, is situated. There is even a village called Jesus.
White washed churches are to be found in the older, less touristy, parts of the island. These look used, and are in good repair, they are not museum pieces. There is evidence not only of an historic faith but a faith which is vibrant.
But why do those hedonistic places use Christian terms such as Sin in their products? Could it be that the Gospel of Jesus Christ has power and this is a way to diminish that power. That’s just a guess I made when thinking about it. I’d like to hear other theories.
