St Edward’s is a large parish in the Diocese of Southwark, situated on a greenfield site to the south east of Croydon. Much of the housing in the southern part of New Addington is owner occupied, whereas the central part of the Estate (Castle Hill Area) and North (Fieldway) is predominantly social housing. New Addington sits within the top 10 percent of the most deprived parishes nationally according to the indices of multiple deprivation (IMD 2010). Like many areas of its type there are high levels of social need.
I love the realism of the advert. Within the top 10 persent of the most deprived parishes is not the sort of sales pitch I expect to see.
I am not qualified to take up the post. To those who are, you canot possibly do this job. A previous Vicar once said that his attitude was, “I cannot do anything here, God, its up to you.” I pray that God witt send someone with a heart for the poor and needy here, a heart something like the hert of Jesus.
I thank God that he does send people to minister to the most needy.
