Apologies at all as the

British Cyclo-Cross Championships

Bradford, 13th January 2013

Who would stand out in a frozen field for most of the day on a midwinter Sunday?

I have done so, or more exactly a frozen park, Peel Park in Bradford. The British Cyclo-Cross Championships took part in Bradford this weekend, thankfully the forecast snow failed to appear, though the weak winter sun failed to raise the temperature much above freezing.

So congratulations to Ian Field for winning the men’s event.

To be serious British men do not have much chance in the world championships in three weeks time in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, so I’ll concentrate on the women’s event, where we have a couple of real prospects: Helen Wyman, seven times British champion and European Champion was beaten by three times silver medalist Nikki Harris. Two real prospects for world medals.

I have to make mention of fourth place Louise Robinson who was the first veteran to finish, as Louise is the daughter of Tour de France stage winner Brian Robinson. My interest in cycling comes from the days when I was Brian Robinson’s paperboy.

Speaking of the TdF, I’ll be in Leeds on Thursday evening when the route of the Yorkshire stages of the 2014 tour will be announced.

Details of the events were Tweeted by British cycling, @BCreports using #crossnationals
