In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Mike the vicar said in his sermon on Trinity Sunday morning at Holy Trinity Church, Huddersfield, that almost all images used for the Holy Trinity fall into some heresy or other, and did not elaborate on that. (I have known for some time that the steam, water and ice analogy is Modalism as water does not normally* exist on earth as all three states at the same time).
So there goes my plan of using the Trinity Sunday service as something to base this post on.
The birth narrative of Jesus Christ in John’s Gospel tells neither the stories of Joseph nor Mary told in Matthew and Luke respectively, but instead a weird philosophical piece starting with the word genesis in Greek, meaning ‘in the beginning which takes us back to the creation story. The word of God at creation was with God and was God. John then reveals that it was the word of God which created the world that became human. We are not told the whole story of the nature of God, but we are told what we need to know to have faith.
John does not talk about Jesus or the Christ in the opening of his Gospel because that was the name and title of a human, and the Word of God was not at this time human, but we are told of God as being a relationship, and this relationship is inclusive. John says in verse 12, “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,” Not it is is to all who receive him, the offer is open to all, it does not matter what your race, sex, gender or sexuality is, all are invited to share in the relationship of God.

*Yes, I am aware that water has a triple point where all three states are possible, at 0.01°C
