It is one day to the polls opening for the referendum on the United kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s membership of the European Union.
I am not going to electioneer. I have already given my opinion on this blog; it hasn’t changed.
But it is important to realise that
- a referendum is not an election. They are not after your opinion, not your vote. If you vote for one side and the other side has more votes you have not lost. It is not about winning, it is about opinion.
- Westminster politicians are representatives, not delegates. They are not bound by the referendum in how they should act.
The government has asked for the opinion of the British people. It is up to the British people to get out to the polling stations and let their opinion be known.
